Front Street to get speed bumps

At least three speed bumps will be installed on Front Street in the near future.

Approached Thursday night by concerned citizens about the volume and speed of traffic on the one-way street, the Demopolis City Council voted unanimously to install the speed bumps on the roughly 700 foot long stretch of road.

“A lot of kids walk through there on their way to U.S. Jones and home,” District One councilman Thomas Moore said.

Front Street was already included in an upcoming paving project, so the bumps will have to wait until that is completed.

In the meantime, a speed limit of 15 miles per hour will be posted and officers will increase patrols in the area. There is no set time frame for the completion of the paving work.
