Demopolis native and Wall Street legend, Jim Rogers, recently donated $10,000 to the library to help enhance the children’s department.

In honor of Mr. Rogers’ donation, the children’s area has been named after his two daughters, Hilton Augusta and Beeland Anderson. The Demopolis Public Library is excited to announce the new name for its children’s room, The Happy Rogers and Baby Bee Rogers Children’s Room.

“We are grateful for Mr. Rogers’ contribution,” Morgan Grimes, Library Director, said. “There is no greater way to honor your loved ones than by making a contribution to the library. This gift will enable us to enhance our children’s area and create an even more inviting space that encourages creativity and recreational reading for children and young adults for years to come. His generosity will help us purchase resources that will help young minds and imaginations grow.”

The library is in the planning stages of transforming the area. Local artist, Kirk Brooker, has created a sign for the new space and designed a library reading tree where the computers are located. Children’s Librarian, Kelley Tarpley, and newly hired Children’s Library Assistant, Gayle Flowers, plan to construct a reading nook where parents and children will have a comfortable space to read together. The library will also update the children’s nonfiction collection, award winning fiction collection, audio collection, and graphic novel collection.

Jim Rogers grew up in Demopolis and attended the public schools here.

“I spent many, many hours in the Demopolis Library when I was a child, said Rogers. “This donation is very small compared to what I got out of the Demopolis Library.”

Rogers has written the following books that can be checked out at the Demopolis Library:

Investment Biker: Around the World with Jim Rogers; Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip; Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World’s Best Market; A Bull in China: Investing Profitably in the World’s Greatest Market; and A Gift to My Children: A Father’s Lessons For Life And Investing.

“As we continue to grow with the help of Mr. Rogers’ donation, we would like your suggestions on how we can make The Happy Rogers and Baby Bee Rogers Children’s Room a space you and your family will enjoy for years to come,” Grimes added.
