The Linden Police Department is a major step closer to resolving an April felony shoplifting case after the arrest of Demopolis’ Harriet Gamble Monday. Gamble, 23, entered Linden-based shop Melody’s Monday morning with a man presumed to be her boyfriend, 31-year-old Lutreall Deshawn Crawford. The pair had already had outstanding Felony Theft of Property warrants issued on them after an April 22 visit to Melody’s in which they allegedly shoplifted approximately $619 worth of clothing. LPD chief Scott McClure said Monday’s arrest came after Gamble and Crawford entered Melody’s Monday.

After the duo arrived, store owner Melody Trice recognized the alleged offenders and phoned 911. McClure, who responded to the call Monday, said Crawford made it out the front door of the establishment before authorities arrived.

Gamble proceeded to tussle with McClure, who pointed out that the offender never used violence toward him but intended rather to elude capture.

“If she had gotten violent and tried to injure me, I would have charged her with assualt,” McClure said. “But she didn’t.” McClure took Gamble, who had prior involvements with four felony cases, into custody on the Felony Theft of Property warrant and also charged her with resisting arrest.

The LPD is still seeking Crawford, who is listed as a resident of 501 East Pettus Street in Demopolis, on a Felony Theft of Property warrant. Crawford is also known to have connections in Jefferson County.
