WAMH holding free health screening

West Alabama Mental Health (WAMH) will hold a free health screening the second Wednesday of each month, beginning this Wednesday.

WAMH is a primary partner in the Bristol-Myers Squibb Coalition for a Healthier Black Belt P Project and will hold a grand opening day in Dixon’s Mills from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17.

A mobile unit will be set up on Highway 43 in the parking lot of Rockbabylon Missionary Baptist Church offering free blood pressure screenings, blood sugar testing, cholesterol testing, medication assistance mental wellness screenings and health risk assessments.

The Alabama Department of Health will also provide HIV screenings.

Project Rebound, a community-based outreach program who has helped victims of April’s tornado outbreak will also be on hand providing free services designed to assist victims in understanding their current situation and the options they have, as well as emotional support and linkage to community resources.
