Sweet Water loses in Champions Challenge

MONTGOMERY – Sweet Water got a late touchdown run from quarterback Brett Davis to close the gap to 38-35 but got no closer in a loss to Hamilton in the Champions Challenge at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
The score was the second of the game for Davis, who opened the scoring on a one-yard run in the first quarter. Davis finished the game with 66 yards rushing on 10 carries. Davis also threw for 53 yards. His lone touchdown pass came in the second quarter when he found Michael Thompson on a 26-yard pass.
Thompson also scored on a one-yard run late in the second quarter. He finished the night with 153 yards on 23 carries, accounting for the bulk of his 221 all-purpose yards. Jarvis Lewis also scored on a seven-yard run in the third quarter.
Taylor Wilson was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, will open the regular season next Friday night when it hosts Thomasville.
