11U all-stars wrap up eventful summer

The Demopolis 11U all-star team wrapped up its summer when it traveled to Franklin, Tenn. July 27 for the Cal Ripken 11U Regional Tournament.

The festivities kicked off with a series of competitions. Demopolis saw six of its players place in exhibition competition before games began the next day.

William Wilkins took third place in the Speed Demon skills competition while Jakobi Ware, Russ Logan, Carson Crawford, Andrew Patterson and David Crawford combined to finish second in the Around the Horn competition, where teams were timed while throwing the ball from home to first base to second base to third base and then back home before finishing the drill with a throw to the shortstop.

When the games that counted began, Demopolis his hard times in pool play, falling Thursday night to host team Franklin with a 14-12 loss. That game saw Davis Petrey his a two-run homer to help anchor the Demopolis effort.

Friday morning saw David Crawford hit a home run in a 34-4 loss to Lenoir County, N.C.

The Demopolis team fell 12-5 to Newport News, Va. Friday night in a contest that saw Petrey hit a two-run homer.

Saturday morning saw Demopolis fall 10-0 to Tallahassee, Fla. in a contest that saw Tyler Jones named Defensive Player of the Game.

Demopolis defeated Henry Co., Tenn. 14-12 Saturday night. Patterson won Player of the Game honors in that contest while Jackson Lay won Offensive Player of the Game.
