Lady Tigers get win despite struggles

The Demopolis girls basketball team overcame 32 minutes of shooting woes to hold off Francis Marion 31-21 Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers stumbled out of the gate with four points in the first quarter, but played stellar defense to hold Francis Marion to only three.

The offensive struggles continued throughout the night for the Lady Tigers as they managed to post double digit points in only the third quarter when they outpaced FMHS 11-6 in the frame.

Demopolis held a 10-point lead with 1:59 to go in the contest and managed to play keep away down the stretch, running the clock down to zero and sealing the win.

Megan Smith shifted from shooting guard to point guard due to the absence of an injured Jonniece Collins. Smith led the Lady Tigers with 10 points.

Catrina Benison added five points for Demopolis while Alexis Jones had four.

Breanna Jones led the defensive effort with 17 rebounds and six blocked shots in the game.

The Lady Tigers will play again Friday night when they host area rival Selma.
