With the Alabama Primary election date looming, the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a candidate forum for local candidates seeking office next week.

The forum will feature candidates for Probate Judge, Circuit Clerk, and the Commission Districts 2 and 4 Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Civic Center from 5:30-9 p.m.

Allen Bishop will moderate.

Chamber director Jenn Tate said her office was seeking public input from local voters with regard to the questions that are to be asked.

“What we’re looking for are the questions the voters want to ask,” Tate said. “(The forum) is an opportunity to get to know the candidates and what they have to offer.”

While healthy discussion is welcome, Tate said any controversial questions or questions in poor taste would be screened out.

“This isn’t a debate,” Tate said of the event. “We’re not going to ask them anything that might shed a negative light on anything.”

Tate asked that questions be emailed to demopchamber@yahoo.com by Feb. 22 for consideration.

Tate also said that any local candidates that have not responded to or received an invitation to participate should contact her office at 289-0270 as soon as possible.
