TUSCALOOSA — The Demopolis Lady Tiger softball team stumbled out of the gate Monday, losing a trio of games at the Hillcrest Round Robin on opening day.

Demopolis lost all three games by a combined scored of 13-0 while playing a total of 14 innings Monday.

“They looked like they’d never held a bat in their life,” DHS coach Todd Mathis said. “They just didn’t swing like they have in practice.”

The Lady Tigers began the day with a 6-0 loss to host Hillcrest. The four-inning contest saw Madison Laduron take the loss while surrendering six runs on six hits and striking out one. Laduron also had the only hit of the game for Demopolis, going 1-for-2 with a single. Raylee Eubanks, Zoe Lewis and Olivia Brame each drew a walk in the game.

Demopolis found itself in a tighter contest in its second game, a 1-0 loss to Bibb County. Laduron worked all six innings of that game, giving up an unearned run while scattering four hits and striking out four batters.

Recent Jeff Davis Community College signee Madison Bozeman went 1-for-3 with a single. Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a double. Brame finished the game 1-for-2 with a single.

In the last inning of the game, the Lady Tigers had runners on second and third with only one out and the heart of the order due up but could not get the hit they needed.

Still, the Lady Tigers kept themselves in the game against Bibb, showing solid defense behind Laduron’s efforts.

“After the first inning of the first game, they didn’t look bad,” Mathis said of the team’s defensive efforts.

“They settled in,” DHS coach Joey Browder said. “They made some big plays.”

The Lady Tigers lost the third game of the day 6-0 to Brookwood. The four-inning contest saw Bozeman take the loss after tossing two innings of work. Danielle Tatum closed out the game, allowing one run and striking out one.

Laduron and Eubanks each went 1-for-2 with a single to record the only DHS hits.

Demopolis is scheduled to play at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in the Patriot Classic Thursday at 5 p.m. against American Christian Academy and Vestavia Hills in pool play. DHS plays Northside Friday in the final pool game to determine seeding for the elimination round, which begins Saturday.
