After hosting a debate for local candidates seeking elected office last week, the Marengo County Alabama Democratic Conference announced its endorsements this week.

The forum has been an annual event for the organization with an endorsement following once its membership has had time to digest and vote on the information.

The candidates the group endorsed were:

• Carla Gains McIntosh, for probate judge

• David Freeman, for Marengo County Commission, District 2

• Calvin Martin, for Marengo County Commission District 4

No endorsement was made for circuit clerk even though candidates for that office attended the meeting.

“We received word shortly after the meeting that candidates for circuit clerk would be made at the state level,” said Angela Fritts, Marengo County ADC vice chairman. “Even though that office is elected in the county, they consider it a state office and will make their own endorsements.”

Candidates for probate judge were selected by an executive committee complied of members from each of the county’s five districts.

Candidates for the two commission seats were selected by smaller panels from members that reside in Districts 2 and 4, respectively.
