Ann Perry Kirkham

Ann Perry Kirkham, 79, of Linden died at her home on March 23. She was born in Selma on Dec. 19, 1932 to the late William Smith Perry and Claudia Myrlee Feulner Perry.

A native of Camden, she graduated in 1949 from Wilcox County High School. Mrs. Kirkham earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institue (API now Auburn University) in 1953. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and served as President of the chapter.

On Sept. 3, 1955, she married Marengo County cattleman Lawrence Agee “Sonny” Kirkham Jr. She worked as a Home Demonstration Agent with the Marengo County Extension Service, as a homemaker, and as an Eligibility Supervisor for the Department of Human Resources.

For 60 years, Mrs. Kirkham was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Demopolis. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the Marengo County Historical Society. She served as Chairman of the Board for the Marengo Nursing Home.

Ann Perry Kirkham found great joy in gardening, baking for friends and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Kirkham is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Pete) Hamilton of Greenville and Laura Kirkham of Palm Desert, Calif., and two grandchildren, Perry Hamilton and Steiner Hamilton of Greenville.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Agee Kirkham Jr. and three children, Barbara Smith Kirkham, Lawrence Agee Kirkham III and William Perry Kirkham.

Funeral services for Ann Perry Kirkham were held at 10 a.m. March 26 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Demopolis. The Rev. Patrick Driscoll officiated. Burial was at Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the devoted care and assistance offered by nurse Angela Stokes and caregiver Alice Aldridge.
