James Wade Bailey

James Wade Bailey died March 20, 2012 in Memphis, TN. Jim was born September 17, 1929 in Demopolis, Alabama and was the son of Francis Leo and Gladys Harlow Bailey.

He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1951. Jim began his career working for the Demopolis Motor Company while in high school and after college he continued to work for General Motors, in 1968 became the General Manager of Capital Chevrolet in Montgomery, Alabama until he retired in 1989. While at the University of Alabama he married Sally Jean Ellis of Miami, Florida.

They had three daughters: Cynthia Palmer (Salinas, CA), Joyce Beggs (Memphis, TN) and Pat Lichterman-Bates (Memphis,Tenn.) and three granddaughters: Bailey Lichterman Baiel, Lauren Lichterman and Sarah Lichterman.

Jim and Sally later divorce and he married Wynona Jones in 1976. He moved to Memphis in June of 2011. Jim Bailey was a much loved father, grandfather, mentor to many and loved by all. He was a member of the Demopolis High School Beta Club, President of Alpha Kappa Psi at the University of Alabama, President of the Birmingham Toastmasters Club, member of the Montgomery Toastmasters Club, President of Florida Junior Miss Pageant, President of the Alabama State Fair, member of the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery and instrumental in forming the Montgomery Area Council on Aging.

Jim was a member of Holy Comforter Church and later became a member of Frazier United Methodist Church. He is survived by his brother Professor Robert L. Bailey (Gainesville, Fla.). He was predeceased by Sally Ellis (Bailey) Studebaker (Memphis, Tenn.) and his sister Margaret Bailey Carmack (Birmingham, AL).

Memorial Service, Friday, April 13th, 3 p.m. Frazier United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Frazier United Methodist Church.
