Fire prevention day Saturday at Lock 5

The Lock 5 Volunteer Fire Department in Hale County will host “Fire Prevention Day” on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lock 5 Park.

Several departments and organizations will have booths and equipment at the event, including Lock 5 Fire Department, the Alabama Forestry Commission, American Red Cross, the Hale County Sheriff’s Department, Hale County Emergency Management Agency and the Army Corp of Engineers.

“We want to get the information out there to the citizens to make their homes fire safe,” said Ethan Barrett, forest ranger for the Alabama Forestry Commission Hale County.

Special guest Smokey the Bear will make several appearances throughout the day. The event admission is free to the public and hamburgers and hotdogs will be served.
