Shelton State Community College is set to offer academic, technical and career education classes in Demopolis.
The first career-orientated courses could begin as soon as this fall with technical classes coming possibly as early as January, according to Demopolis Mayor Mike Grayson.
The new training and educational opportunities should not only pay dividends for the students but the city too, Grayson said.
“It all gets back to economic development,” Grayson said. “(An educated workforce) is one of the things businesses look for.”
Non-certified classes in areas like truck driving will begin first, followed by technical and academic classes.
Classes will be offered in the old New Era plant, the Theo Ratliff Activity Center or the career center, Grayson said.
“We’ve got the equipment. We’ve just being waiting on the green light,” Grayson said.
