William Raymond “Son” McManus

William Raymond “Son” McManus, 85, of Sweet Water died Tuesday, Aug. 14 at his home.

He was born June 28, 1927, in Surginer. He was a former wood yard supervisor and he loved singing. He was a member of the Dixons Mills Baptist Church and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Mayton McManus of Sweet Water; a son, Randy (Judy) McManus of Columbus, Ga.; three daughters, Wanda McManus (Bruce) Etheridge, Sharon McManus (Matt) Mathers and Sherry McManus Blakeney, all of Sweet Water; one brother, James “Dink” McManus of Sweet Water; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leon Harrison and the Rev. Richard Martindale officiating. Burial was at Sweet Water Cemetery in Sweet Water.

Active pallbearers were Chad McManus, Stacey McManus, Tyler Blakeney, Greg McManus, Rand Cooper and Mike Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers were Rusty Burnett, Lowell Lewis, Morgan Flowers, John Brunson and James McManus.
