The Demopolis Tigers host the Saraland Spartans Friday night in region play.

Coach Tom Causey said that even though his team won big in the last two weeks, they still have a lot of work to do.

“We haven’t played 48 minutes in a game yet,” he said. “We have to get better at everything we do. We are making immature decisions, and we just have to keep getting better every week.”

He said that Saraland is going to run the ball downhill and will be the most physical team the Tigers have seen so far this season.

“We haven’t seen a team like them yet,” he said. “They are a physical football team.”

Saraland and Demopolis are both 2-0 coming into this game.

Linden

The Linden Patriots will play their first home game of the season Friday night against St. Luke’s Episcopal.

The Patriots have won their first two games by big margins, and head coach Andro Williams wants to make sure his team stays focused and doesn’t get complacent.

“We need to keep improving in all areas and keep staying humble,” he said. “We have to make sure we don’t get complacent and keep working.”

Williams also said that a game like this could almost be like a trap game.

“St. Luke’s is a team on the rise,” he said. “We probably won’t see them after the next region change because they will probably moving up to 2A or 3A. They have been building this team for several years and have a lot of seniors this season.”

St. Luke’s is 1-1 coming into Friday’s game, and Linden is 2-0.

John Essex

John Essex returns home after a tough loss to Fruitdale last week to host in-county rival Marengo High School.

Coach Jerome Antone said his team needs to go back to what they did in week one and improve on that.

“We have to try to get better each week and not make many changes to our gameplan,” he said.

Antone added that playing against a team in the county brings a little extra motivation to the game for his players.

“A lot of these kids grew up together,” he said, “and they will be talking on the phone or Facebooking this week before Friday. They will come out hyped to play the game.”

Sweet Water (1-1, 1-0) hosts Millry (2-0, 1-0) Friday night in a region 2A matchup.

Marengo Academy (3-0, 2-0) hosts Patrician Academy (1-2, 1-1) Thursday night in an AISA Class A game.

A.L. Johnson (1-1, 0-1) goes on the road to Fruitdale to take on the Pirates (1-1, 1-0).
