Demopolis council can’t conduct business for second consecutive meeting

The Demopolis City Council couldn’t conduct business for a second consecutive meeting Monday because they lacked having enough members present.

Councilmen Thomas Moore, Mitchell Congress and Melvin Yelverton were absent from the 4 p.m. meeting.

The lack of a quorum follows a dramatic Sept. 6 meeting in which Moore and Congress walked out to prevent a vote appointing Conrad Murdock to the Demopolis City Schools Board.

Moore, Congress and Yelverton had each let Mayor Mike Grayson or City Clerk Sam Gross know that they would be absent prior to the meeting.

The council plans to meet again Tuesday (tomorrow) at 1:30 p.m.
