Sweet Water got a big 14-8 win over regional foe South Choctaw on the road Friday night.

“This was a tough game. They are a great football team. It ended up being a war,” Sweet Water head coach Stacy Luker said. “Our defense held tough in the second half.”

The Bulldogs got off to a quick start, with Jakoby Alridge scoring on the team’s opening possession. He added another TD before the break to give the visitors a 14-0 lead. That touchdown capped a 96-yard drive set up by a Daniel Sewell interception.

South Choctaw answered after intermission, scoring their only touchdown with about 9 minutes to go in the third quarter.

Sweet Water had two possessions after that and “basically just ate up the clock,” Luker said.

Alridge finished the night with 124 yards, complemented by 106 yards from Deion Waters.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 in their regional and 3-1 overall. They go out of area next week to host 1A powerhouse Maplesville.
