Pit bulls attack Jefferson farm

A Jefferson farmer had two goats, three chickens and a rabbit killed by four pit bulls Monday morning around 5 a.m.
The dogs came to Mike Compton?s farm off of County Road 21 and mauled the animals. Compton was able to shoot and kill two of the dogs and injure a third, but the injured dog and the fourth dog both got away.
Compton said his concern is more for other people than his animals.
“That could very easily have been my little girls over there,” he said. “I’m more worried about them hurting someone instead of something.”
He added that it did not appear that the dogs were looking for food. They killed the chickens and ran past them to get to the goats, but did not stop to try to eat any of them.
When Compton heard the commotion, he began shooting and the dogs scattered.
If anyone has any information on whom the dogs belong to, please contact the Marengo County Sheriff’s Department.
