In a brief meeting Friday, the Demopolis City Schools board approved hiring a maintenance assistance, pending a background check.
The board voted to hire David Vann, who was recommended by Superintendent Al Griffin.
Reimbursement from ADECA’s On the Job Training program will reimburse the school system $6,375 toward Vann’s salary.
Friday’s meeting was also the last one for outgoing board member Bobby Armstead. The Demopolis City Council voted Thursday evening to appoint Conrad Murdock to Armstead’s seat.
Armstead, who’s term expired in June, has continued to serve on the board learned of the news Friday morning.
“I’ve enjoyed it,” he said about his time on the board.
In other business, the board took the following actions:
•Selected Murdock to be the board’s delegate to the Alabama Association of School Boards upcoming meeting. Ronnie O’Neal was picked as an alternate delegate.
•Approved dismissing school at noon on Friday, Oct. 12 due to Demopolis High School homecoming activities.
•Moved a previously approved Demopolis Middle School trip to Disney World from April 2013 to this December. DMS Principal Blaine Hathcock said the original dates conflicted with testing.
•The board also held an executive session to discuss two discipline matters.
