The Marengo Theater is now under the management of Lisha and Luis Montelongo.

Lisha and Luis Montelongo are the new managers of the Marengo Theater on East Washington Street in Demopolis.

“We were just kind of joking about the idea of taking on the theater and it just kind of happened,” Lisha Montelongo said.

The changes moviegoers can expect include some cleaning and restoration to the theater to happen over time.

The Sunday movie time hours have also changed from 7-9 p.m. to 3-5 p.m. The theater also hopes to offer combos with different prices including a ticket, popcorn and drink.

“We changed it [Sunday showtimes] because people may be getting ready for the next day on Sundays with work or school,” she said.

Another new offering of the theater is the $4 theater cup, which allows customers to bring back their cup every time and only pay $1 for a drink after the initial purchase.

In the future, they hope to offer some matinee movies on Saturday and Sunday. She said it has been hard recently to get people in the theater because they are competing with football season.

The Montelongos will operate the theater, but will also see a lot of help from their family.

“Sometimes my mom will help out in the theater,” she said. “We are definitely community and family oriented.”

She said also if a community member has any suggestions for a movie they want to see, they are urged to visit the theater’s Facebook page.

The theater is currently playing The Odd Life of Timothy Green and Premium Rush.

Montelongo also added she feels about 90 percent sure the theater will be able to offer the new Twilight movie, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” on the original release date of Nov. 16 this year.

To find movie titles and times, moviegoers can call (334) 289-0850 or check the theater’s ad in each Wednesday edition of The Demopolis Times.
