Busy month for schools

October is a busy month for Demopolis City Schools with Fall festivals, parent conferences and a host of other events taking place in area schools.

All of Demopolis schools will participate in Parent Conference day on Oct. 25. The students will be released at 1 p.m. and conference times vary at the respective schools.

Westside Elementary

• Westside kindergartens kicked off October traveling to the Pumpkin Patch on Oct. 10 and brought back a lot of pumpkins.

• Demopolis Fire Department will visit Westside to talk with the students about fire prevention and safety around plugs on Oct. 18.

• Westside will host their annual fall festival on Oct. 23 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Teachers and students dress up in costumes and participate in activities.

U.S. Jones Elementary

• The students at U.S. Jones are also gearing up for a busy Fall as the fourth graders are preparing to travel to the UWA Water Festival on Oct. 23.

• Students will participate in the Halloween Career Fair at the Theo Ratliff Activity Center on Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. Participants will dress like the career they see themselves attaining when they get older.

• The Geography fair will take place Nov. 14-16.

Demopolis Middle School

• DMS will participate in the Hawaii Five-O luau event to be held on Nov. 8 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The event is for students with perfect attendance within the first 50 days.

• The Fall Fest held in conjunction with the PTA on Oct. 30 from 1-2:30 p.m.

• The Explore test will be administered next week for eighth grade students.

Demopolis High School

• Students are winding down from a big homecoming week. The school also hosted the Marengo County college fair.

• Report cards will be sent home Oct. 24.

• The volleyball team will travel to Sumter Central to the area tournament on Thursday, Oct. 18 for a 2 p.m. game.

• This year’s theater play will be “Usher” taking place Nov. 14-18.
