The Demopolis Lady Tigers basketball team will tip off their season on Saturday, Nov. 10 in a tournament at Francis Marion.

Head coach Tony Pittman said he is excited about his team this year because he has three returning seniors. The team after them is extremely young, though, with one junior, two sophomores and six freshmen. The seniors are Jonniece Collins, Alexis Jones and Martina Smith. The junior on the roster is Shartisha Tripp.

“We are in transition this year,” he said, “but I am excited about the opportunity to coach these girls. They are a good group, and I like how they are working. We have been conditioning since August, and I think we will be in good shape when the season starts.”

After the first couple of weeks of practice, Pittman feels like his team is in a good position heading into the season.

“I am pleased with our conditioning and progress so far,” she said. “We are still in learning right now. We have a lot of young talent, but they’re kids that will work hard.”

Four of the 12 girls on the team played volleyball this season, and have had a lot of conditioning heading into the season. Ebony and Ivery Moore, Breanna Pruitt and Caleb Washington were the members of the volleyball team that are also playing basketball this season.
