Concerned citizens to meet about fire department
Citizens concerned about the Demopolis Fire Department will meet Thursday night at Christian Chapel.
The meeting follows one held Nov. 20 during which Mayor Mike Grayson talked to several community leaders about the city’s decision to not reappoint Fire Chief Ronnie Few.
Former councilman Thomas Moore said people still have unanswered questions about the council’s decision. Moore served on the Demopolis City Council for five terms before deciding not to seek reelection this summer.
“What we hope is to open a dialogue. What I know personally, there is no rhyme or reason to not reelect Few,” Moore said. “The guy runs a top-notch program. His fire department in Demopolis is well respected. It just doesn’t make sense.”
Moore said he hasn’t yet heard a justifiable reason to not bring Few back as fire chief.
“He has a vision for this department and this city, and he works hard to implement it,” said Moore. “There’s a significant group of people in town who are displeased with the town council’s decision.”
Moore said those concerned citizens would decide their next course of action during Thursday’s meeting and that anyone is welcomed to attend.
Christian Chapel is located at 500 W. Decatur Street. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
