Craig Schumacher reads a Christmas story to children at George P. Austin Head Start in Linden.

One of the primary goals of the Kiwanis Club is to help children, and on Thursday, that is what they did.

Craig Schumacher, president of Kiwanis Demopolis, and Cindy Hay from First Baptist Church went to George P. Austin Head Start School in Linden and read Christmas books to the children.

In addition to reading the stories to the children, Kiwanis also donated 17 books to each of the seven classrooms through the Reading Is Fundamental program.

RIF is a children’s literacy nonprofit that provides new books to children to help promote literacy.

Every year, Kiwanis donates books to the school through RIF for the children to have in their classes.

All of the children were excited to see the books, and they enjoyed listening to the stories read by Schumacher and Hay.

Books such as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” and “The Nutcracker” were read along with several other Christmas favorites.
