Homestead exemption deadline approaching
Published 10:03 am Friday, December 14, 2012
The deadline is quickly approaching for those over 65, blind or on total disability to reapply for their homestead exemption.
Those eligible should go to the Revenue Commissioners office to reapply for their homestead exemption, if it has not been done already.
The new law, Act 2012-313, passed by the Alabama Legislature requires the taxpayer to recertify their qualifications to continue to receive this homestead exemption. The last day to recertify is Monday, Dec. 31, or the current property tax exemptions will be lost.
Any questions regarding this should be directed to the Marengo County Revenue Commissioner Sharon Barkley at 334-295-2214.
