DCS to honor Sandy Hook Elementary School

The Demopolis City Schools Board of Education met Monday night, and approved Wednesday, Dec. 19 being a day of honor for the students, faculty and families of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Students are encouraged to meet at their school’s flagpole at 7:30 a.m., and also to wear green and white, which are the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.
The board also approved a trip to Washington, D.C. for the fifth-grade honor club at U.S. Jones Elementary School. The trip will be April 22-26, 2013.
There will also be early dismissal at Demopolis High School on Jan. 7-9 for semester exams.
The board approved overnight trips for the spring sports at Demopolis High School for tournaments throughout the season.
Four students and two adults from DHS will travel to Washington, D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 18-22.
In other business, the board did the following:
ÑApproved financial statements and payroll for November 2012.
ÑApproved a contract with Assurance of Compliance and Alabama Immigration Compliance Agreement for a grant with the Alabama State Council on the Arts worth $3,000 for DHS.
ÑAllowing Ross Martial Arts to use the gym at DHS on Jan. 19 for a competition.
