LIVINGSTON – The men’s and women’s basketball teams return to Pruitt Hall Gym on the UWA campus Thursday evening for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Union University. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30.
The UWA women’s team comes into the game 8-7 overall and 3-4 in GSC play. The Tigers have lost two consecutive games while starting forwards Brittany Weathers and Jamie Gunter have missed most of the last three games with nagging injuries. The Union women are 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Weathers leads the GSC and is third in NCAA Division II women’s basketball in scoring at 22.4 points per game. She has not dressed for the last three games while rehabbing a foot injury. Gunter averages 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. Guard Nikkia Jordan has taken up the scoring slack during Weathers’ absence, averaging 22.2 points over the last six games.
The UWA men are 6-8 overall, 2-5 in the GSC, coming off a split of a two-game road trip at Delta State and Christian Brothers, defeating the Statesmen last Thursday in overtime. Union’s men are 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the GSC.
