LIVINGSTON – Senior West Alabama infielder Matthew Magee was named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association to the Division II Preseason All-South Region First Team on Wednesday.

Matthew was one of seven players from the Gulf South Conference named to the 16 player first team list. The preseason honor comes to Magee following an impressive season in his first year at West Alabama.

Magee, a Petal, Miss., native and transfer from Pearl River Community College, became a solid hitter for the Tigers in 2012 with a .294 batting average. He finished the year with the second-most plate appearances for the Tigers and reached base 82 times with a team-high of 10 multiple RBI games. The honor comes after he was named as GSC Player to Watch in 2012.
