Mattie Jean Martin, 86, of Thomasville passed away Friday, March 1 at Thomasville Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Aimwell to Eugene and Martha Squires Mayton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Martha Squires Mayton; husband, Putt Martin; son, Kenny Martin; sisters, Ellen Dunklin, Winona Rinehart and Freddie Parten; and brothers, Otha Mayton and Carlton Mayton.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Barry) Pope of Arlington and Martha Jean (Buck) George of Moundville; son, Danny (Brenda) Harper of Greensboro; sisters, Josie McManus of Sweet Water, Nell Barron of Birmingham and Shirley Daniels of Nanafalia; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Sunday, March 3 at Nanafalia Cemetery at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Williams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
