The Demopolis City Council met Thursday evening and reappointed Jim Stanford to the Demopolis City Schools Board of Education. Stanford was up for reappointment after completing his first full term on the board.
The council also appointed Shawn Lomax to the Board of Adjustment, and named two nominees for the open spot on the cemetery board to be voted on at the next meeting. Those nominees were Mark Dollar and Marvin Johnson.
During the district reports, Cleveland Cole brought up that, with summer around the corner, many children tend to be driving golf carts in certain parts of town. He suggested that it be looked at for the safety of the children.
Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese said there is already a plan in place this year to have the golf carts towed to the police station if children are caught driving them on public roads. He said the parents would then have to come pay to get the carts back.
The council also tabled a resolution that would oppose House Bill 257 and Senate Bill 217.
