Montevallo shuts down UWA baseball

MONTEVALLO – Montevallo pieced together three two-out rallies to record seven of its runs in a 10-1 victory over West Alabama at Kermit A. Johnson Field on Wednesday. West Alabama ended the game with a season high of five errors with two leading to runs.

The Tigers now fall to 21-25 on the season having lost its last four games on the road. Montevallo will end its home season with a victory to improve to 30-16 this season.

Devon Davis (4-1) pitched through the first seven innings for the Falcons, tallying seven strikeouts to claim the win. West Alabama burned through five pitchers in the game. Zach Parks (3-4) pitched through the first three innings allowing two runs and three hits to record the loss.

Montevallo catcher Jackson Slaid homered to left field in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Slaid finished 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Austin Dubberly led the first two-out rally with a triple in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded. Dubberly ended 2-for-5 with one run and three RBI. West Alabama’s Matthew Magee doubled in his first two at-bats and scored in the top of the first to put the Tigers up 1-0. Magee ended 2-for-3 with one run.

West Alabama will now return to Gulf South Conference action to host West Florida in its final series of the regular series this weekend. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday with game one starting at 3 p.m. The series will conclude with Senior Day on Sunday.
