LIVINGSTON – West Alabama baseball will take on West Florida in the first game of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 2 at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tenn. The matchup will be the fourth consecutive game between the two programs after West Florida swept the Tigers in the final regular season series.
“We now start a new season going into the tournament,” said Rundles. “Everyone will start off back at 0-0. We are going to have to pitch well and play solid defense and get the bats swinging and if we do that then we have a good chance of winning.”
West Alabama (21-28; 13-13 GSC) will be making its second consecutive appearance to the conference tournament ranked sixth in the conference. Third ranked West Florida (34-10; 18-8) eliminated the Tigers in last year’s conference tournament with a 2-0 victory.
The first round of the tournament will also feature No. 2 Alabama-Huntsville and No. 7 West Georgia in game two, No. 4 North Alabama and No. 5 Valdosta State in game three and No. 1 Delta State and No. 8 Christian Brothers in game four.
