LIVINGSTON – West Alabama linebacker Deon Lacey has signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League.
Lacey, 6-2 and 229 pounds, will report with 15 undrafted free agents and the Cowboy’s seven draft picks for a rookie mini-camp May 10-12 at Valley Ranch.
“We are so excited for Deon. He has developed from a raw athlete into a big time player because of his relentless work ethic,” UWA head football coach Will Hall. “He always played with tremendous effort and has not yet reached his full potential. We are truly blessed to have had Deon in our program.”
An All-Gulf South Conference and All-America selection, Lacey finished his senior season with 54 total tackles, 37 solo stops. He recorded 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks while intercepting a pass and breaking up two.
As a junior, Lacey was named the 2011 GSC Defensive Player of the Year after recording 97 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, four broken passes and a fumble recovery.
Lacey is the third Tiger to sign a free agent NFL deal in the last two days.
