Descendants of Joseph Willis (1849-1907) and Margaret Willis Willis (1855-1949) came home to Faunsdale and Allenville July 18-21 to celebrate precious family memories.
Joe and Margaret were the parents of 13 children, all of whom lived to adulthood.
Along with Joe and Margaret, five surviving grandchildren were remembered and honored at the family reunion held this past weekend. The reunion hostess, Augusta Mae Willis Carter of Faunsdale, is the “baby” of the surviving grands.
She shares the surviving grandchild legacy with Mayme Jeffries Russell, Fairfield; Laura Sturdivant Foy, Birmingham; Carrie Harris Lockett, Cleveland, Ohio; and Margurite Gary Russell, Detroit, Michigan.
During the banquet held at the Demopolis Civic Center Friday, July 20, Sharon Williams of Birmingham presented the family history. At the conclusion of her presentation she acknowledged Joe and Margaret as our first generation, their thirteen children (all deceased) as the second generation, and five additional generations in attendance at the reunion, making a total of seven generations of Willis family members recognized.
