Demopolis Middle School improves to 3-0

The Demopolis Middle School Tigers upended the Jackson Middle School Aggies by a score of 36-0 Monday night.

AJ Jackson, who rushed for 89 yards on six attempts with a touchdown, led the Tigers on the ground. Derrick Birl had one carry for 36 yards for a touchdown as well.

Russ Logan tacked on 38 yards on the ground with three carries, and Brandon Simmons rushed for 28 yards on three carries. Simmons led all receivers with 32 yards on two catches and a touchdown. Logan completed a pass for a 24-yard touchdown, and Andrew Patterson was 3 of 5 passing for 35 yards.

On defense Xavier Jowers led the TIgers in tackles with 7 solos and an assist. He also had two interceptions, one of which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown. Jackson finished the day with 5 solo tackles, 2 assists, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery, and Walt Ezell had a sack. Taylor Woodall and Tyler Jones each assisted on a sack. Trey McKinley forced a fumble during the game, as did Keyshawn Johnson.

Darius Birl read a route gathering an interception right before the half, which he returned 56 yards for a touchdown. Demetrius Davis, Derrick Birl and Tyler Jones each added a two-point conversion in the game.

“This was the most complete game our guys have played,” head coach Jeremy Silcox said. “Everyone knows they are going to get a strong opponent when you play Jackson, and I am proud of the way our guys responded. They are listening to coaching, and understand that they can’t become complacent with the tough schedule we play.”

Demopolis Middle School will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 23 against the Sweet Water Bulldogs at the DMS stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
