UWA men’s soccer allow four second half goals in loss to Lee

Lee University scored four unanswered goals in the second half to defeat West Alabama men’s soccer 4-3 in Tiger Stadium on Sunday.

It is the second straight loss for West Alabama (5-2-1, 3-2-1) who entered the week unbeaten. It is the first defeat at home as the Tigers are now 3-1-1 in Tiger Stadium. The victory is Lee’s (3-3-1, 2-2-1) second Gulf South Conference win in its first year as a member.

UWA jumped on the board first with Brian Meadows first goal of the season in the ninth minute off an assist by Vitor Gazza. Gazza extended the lead with two more first half goals, both on assists by Meadows, to send the Tigers into the half up 3-0. Gazza now becomes the Tiger’s leading scorer with five total goals.

Lee’s Josh Ball answered with a goal on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and another goal in the 53rd. Ball ended the game with three total goals becoming Lee’s leading scorer with five on the year.

Arturo Rocha capped the game winning goal in the 87th minute for his third of the season.

Starting goalkeeper for the Tigers Evan Pidgeon, received the loss by giving up a season high of four goals. Lee’s keeper Tom Halsall got the win by recording six saves.

UWA men’s soccer will return to the pitch on Friday to take on West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. The match is set for 7:30 p.m.
