Five Tigers score in men’s soccer win over Concordia

West Alabama men’s soccer posted a season high of single game goals in a 5-0 victory over Concordia College in Tiger Stadium on Sunday. Jacob Ramsey, William Artige and Michael Goodsell each recorded their first goals of the season as five total Tigers ended with points on the board.
“We showed great bounce-back ability today,” said UWA head men’s soccer coach Matthew Thorne.
“Our last few matches show that this is a game of two halves. Today we played for a full 90 minutes whereas opposed to our previous matches where we preformed great for only one half. We came back today with a great spirit and now we are looking forward to Friday.”
Ramsey finished with the game-winning goal in the first two minutes snapping a three game losing skid for West Alabama (6-3-1).
Clay Green and Thibault Charmey each marked their fifth goals of the season to tie Vitor Gazza as the team’s leading scorers. Green scored in the 34th minute and Charmey in the 60th. Green ended the match with his first two assists of the season.
UWA starting goalkeeper Lavares Stone split the shutout with freshman Austin Holtzclaw. Stone made one save as the Tigers allowed Concordia three total shots.
The Tigers will return to Gulf South Conference action as they host Shorter University on Friday. The Hawks currently sit No. 2 in the conference. The match is set for 7:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
