U.S. Jones class holds 50th reunion

The U.S. Jones High School class of 1963 recently held its 50th class reunion at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Mississippi.

The U.S. Jones High School class of 1963 recently held its 50th class reunion at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Mississippi.

The U. S. Jones High School class of 1963 celebrated its 50th class reunion at the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica Resorts, Miss., Sept. 15-18.

Attending the reunion were: David Earl Andrews of Montgomery; Ann Childrey Ash and husband Dave of Demopolis; Joseph Albert Harris of Demopolis; Hardenia Johnson Childrey of Montgomery; George Richard Kelly and wife Wanda of North Chesterfield, Va.; Saul May Jr. and wife Melissa of Birmingham; Bernice Robinson Wyche and husband James of Petersburg, Va.; Elnora Sanders Marrisett of Demopolis; Rebecca Todd Russell and husband Leon of Cleveland, Ohio; and Suzette Williams Russell of Demopolis.

The group enjoyed breakfast to start the day Monday. On Monday evening, classmates enjoyed a meet and greet in the Millennium Bar and Lobby at the resort where they reminisced over photos from years gone by and tales of ‘mischief’ during their school years.

‘Senior moments’ presented interesting stories of years gone by. The group enjoyed a tour of Memphis, Tenn., led by Blues City Tours Tuesday morning, visiting such places as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Lorraine Hotel, the National Civil Rights Museum, Beale Street, Stax Recording Studios, the ducks at the famous Peabody Hotel, Graceland, the Visitors Center and other sites in Memphis.

The grand finale was Tuesday evening with a banquet where a delicious roast prime rib of beef au jus with all the trimmings was served in the Live Oak Ballroom. Deceased classmates were remembered with the lighting of a candle, and reflections were given by classmates and their spouses. The evening ended with the singing of the school song.
