James Benny “Ben” Chilton, 71, of Raleigh, N.C., died Monday, Oct. 21.

He was born March 26, 1942, in Westfield, N.C. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, and was a Development Officer with North Carolina State University from 1985 to 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Roosevelt Chilton and Annie Blanch Collins; and his sister Elizabeth Chilton Rhodes.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Chilton; daughter Jennifer (Greg) Tate of Demopolis; grandchildren Gavin and Grant Tate; and sister Sue Chilton (Harry) Underwood of Winston-Salem, N.C.

A Celebration of Life was held Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 am at Raleigh Moravian Church in Raleigh, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Ben and Peggy Endowment at the College of Natural Resources at NC State, or Raleigh Moravian Church.
