A national dog trial event is in Demopolis this weekend for breed testing.

The Verein Deutsch-Drahthaar Armbruster Zuchtprufung trials test the breed’s hunting ability with several different tests.

The Armbruster event is a trial for the VDD breed of dog, and it has been held since 2002. The event has been held across the United States, and this is its first year in Demopolis. Dogs, dog handlers, judges and assistants will be in town to test and contribute to the versatile trained dog breed.

The event began Wednesday, Oct. 30, and will last until Saturday, Nov. 2. There will be testing each day at the training field, and the event will conclude Saturday with an awards banquet at the Demopolis Civic Center from 7-10 p.m.

Testing is being held throughout the week, and a parade of dogs will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the testing field headquarters area.

The breed is of German decent, and is about 100 years old, and the dogs are known as versatile hunting dogs. They are used for water work, pointing, fieldwork, tracking wounded game and retrieving.
