Alton Mathew Oglesby

Alton Mathew Oglesby, age 94. of Gallion, passed away on Dec. 6, 2013.

Services were held at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Smith officiating, Burial followed in the church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing.

He was a native of Perry County and was a World War II veteran. He lived three years overseas. He received a purple heart, a bronze star and numerous other metals. Prior to retiring he raised chickens for Hickman Hatchery.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Vennie Lois Harris Oglesby; and two grandchildren, Shawn Oglesby and Billy Ray Smith.

He is survived by his daughters, Frances Smith Spidle, Elizabeth (Mickey) Rayford and Christine (William) Oglesby; his sons, Buddy (Pattle) Oglesby, Nolly (Hilda) Oglesby, R.C. (Delaine) Oglesby, Daniel (Sherry) Oglesby, Ronald (Pat) Oglesby, and Norman (Diane) Oglesby; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Paul Oglesby, Jerry Oglesby, Jessie Oglesby, Darrin Flowers, Bo Hoggle, Mike Jones and Frank Lavender.
