Chester Newton Montz

Chester Newton Montz, 92, of Linden, died Thursady, Jan. 2 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 3, 1921, in Marion. He was a retired barber and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his son, Pat Montz.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Montz of Linden; son, Frank (Samantha) Montz of Vineland; daughters, Ann (John) Hammack of Demopolis, and Lyquinta (Dwain) Glass of Linden; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church on Monday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Coats and the Rev. Irby Weaver officiating. Burial with military honors followed at New Octagon Cemetery in Linden.

Active pallbearers were Chris Montz, Will Glass, Jerry Atkinson, Barry Smith, Sam Burge, Mackey Dunkin, Coy Baxter and Jeremy Atkinson.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Burge, F.P. McNamara, Jay Clark, Billy Thompson, Bubba Dunkin, Buddy Buck, James Pierson, Richard Montz, members of the Adult III Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church, and deacons at Calvary Baptist Church.
