Russell Gilbert Lackey, 80, of Demopolis passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Tuscaloosa to the late Fred and Ruby Essary Lackey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Essary Lackey; and his daughter, Teresa Lynn Lackey.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Farrar Lackey of Demopolis; daughters, Brenda L. Speed of Tuscaloosa and Cindy L. Parten of Demopolis; sister, Betty June (Tommy) Wilkins of Carrolton; brother, Fred Lackey Jr. of Huntsville; grandchildren, Russ (Heather) Speed of Tuscaloosa, Allison (Joe) Simmons of Tuscaloosa, Charlie Parten of Demopolis, and Carson Parten of Demopolis; great-grandchildren, Emory Frances Simmons and Cole Russell Speed, both of Tuscaloosa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Demopolis with the Rev. Tommy Carr officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Graham Cemetery in Reform.
Pallbearers will be A.G. Westbrook, Max Bailey, E.P. Griffith Jr., Harold Johnson, Richard Yawn, Joe Richie, Jack Fox, Tom Lackey and Clint Knight.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees and volunteers of Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hospice of West Alabama in Mr. Lackey’s memory.
