Local high school seniors still have time to apply for several scholarships sponsored by local groups.

For those students pursuing a career in healthcare, there are six $1,500 scholarships available from the Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

The Auxiliary initiated the scholarship program in 2005 with the establishment of the Emmett and Carolyn Clinkscales Scholarship and the Carolyn S. (Betty) McCormick Scholarship.

While both scholarships are available to residents of Marengo, Sumter, Hale, Choctaw, Perry, Greene and Clarke counties, the McCormick scholarship is granted only to children and/or grandchildren of employees of the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority.

With a total of six scholarships to present in 2014, three THA family members and three members of the general public will be assisted with their educations.

Applications for the Auxiliary scholarships are available in the guidance department of all area high schools as well as online at http://www.bwwmh.com/inthecommunity%20-%20scholarship.

The deadline to apply for the Auxiliary scholarships is Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be U.S. citizens, high school seniors and living in Alabama. Applications can be picked up at the district office located in the USDA office at 105 East Fifth Avenue in Linden.
