UWF beats UWA men’s tennis in GSC Championship

For the second consecutive year the University of West Florida snapped an extended West Alabama winning streak and defeated the Tigers in the finals of the Gulf South Conference Tennis Championship Tournament.

The top-ranked Argonauts downed the Tigers, 5-1, in the finals on Saturday at Lagoon Park, snapping UWA’s winning streak at 19 matches. The Tigers are 23-2, with both losses coming at the hands of UWF. Last season the Argonauts broke a 17-match UWA win streak in the GSC tourney finals.

West Alabama had advanced to the finals by defeating No. 13 Valdosta State, 5-2, in Saturday morning’s semi-finals. West Florida moved past Delta State in the other semi-final to face the Tigers.

The conference championship is the 11th overall for UWF, who improved to 24-0. The Argos have won three straight.
