Friends of Gaineswood will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.
To mark the occasion, the non-profit group devoted to preserving Gaineswood is planning a gala for Saturday, June 7 from 6-10 p.m. Those who attend will enjoy musical guest, The Grand Band, food and special tours by the Gaineswood Belles.
Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at Gaineswood, which is located at 805 South Cedar Ave. The last day to buy tickets is June 1.
Gaineswood is one of America’s finest rival Greek homes.
Original owner Nathan Bryan Whitfield started construction of his home in 1843, and many of the Whitfield family’s original furnishing are still present in the home today.
The state of Alabama now owns the home but are unable to complete all the repairs necessary to preserve the beauty of Gaineswood, so Friends of Gaineswood have made it their priority to restore and maintain the home.
Though Friends of Gaineswood have made great progress in the restoration of the home though repairs done to the foundation, drainage systems, columns, ceilings, shutters and windows, the home is still in need of several improvements.
