Demopolis Public Library is hosting two book signings as part of their Adult Summer Reading Program.

Registration for the Adult Program, “Literary Elements” started June 2. Participants register, record the titles of the books they read in June and attend programs. Participants will have a chance to win a Kindle Fire that the Friends of the Demopolis Public Library are providing.

On Monday, June 16, author Vanessa Fortenberry will host a “Lunch and Learn” program at noon to discuss her book, “Mama, I Want to See God.” Participants bring their own lunch and The Friends provide drinks and dessert. Paperback copies of her book will be available for $13 and hardback copies for $18.

Fortenberry is music teacher turned librarian and writes inspirational stories, fiction and nonfiction, for children and adults. Inspired by her grandson’s curiosity about wanting to see God, she wrote the children’s verse story, “Mama, I Want to See God.”

This story echoes the ways in which young readers inquisitively want to know if they can see God and if they look like Him. She will also host a story time for children at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16.

Betty Jean Tucker is also having a signing for her new book, “On a Darkling Plain,” on Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m.

Tucker is a former English professor at UWA and her latest work is a collection of short stories. She will also have a book signing at the Marengo County Public Library in Linden on Wednesday, June 18 at 1 p.m.

The author of the library’s book club book, “The Library: Where Life Checks Out,” Carmen DeSousa, is joining the book discussion via telephone at 1 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. The library will provide snacks, and you provide questions and comments about the book. Copies of the book are available at the library.

The library is also registering children and teens for the Summer Reading Program “Fizz, Boom, Read!”
