Circuit Clerk warns citizens of jury duty scam

Marengo County Circuit Clerk Kenny Freeman is warning citizens of a scam involving jury duty.

Freeman said people are getting calls from someone claiming to be from a sheriff’s office. The caller tells people there is a warrant out for their arrest for failing to show up for jury duty.

The scammers then instruct victims to pay a $1,000 fine to avoid arrest, giving them instructions on how to make a payment.

Freeman said if anyone has any questions about the scam to call him at (334) 295-2224. If someone has been a victim of the scam, he or she should should contact law enforcement.
