The local firefighters union spent Monday morning going around to Demopolis schools donating items the schools or children were in need of.

Demopolis Local 3663, a union of profession firefighters, donated tablets to Westside Elementary and U.S. Jones Elementary, sweatshirts to Demopolis Middle School, and a check to Demopolis High School to help cover graduation expenses for students in need.

“We’re just trying to help some children in need and give back to our community,” said union president Greg Russell. “We want to help in any way we can.”

Russell recently helped reorganize the local union and hopes to be able to do more fundraisers in the future so they can be more involved in the community.

The funds for these donations were raised from the union’s inaugural golf tournament held last month at the Demopolis SportsPlex.
